The miracle picnic......

It's a story about very special picnic. Can you guess what story it could be?.

Yes you are right! It's the story of 5 loaves and 2 fish.

Jesus talked to people everywhere He went. People in the towns and villages came to listen to Him. He told them amazing stories. He told people all about God in His stories. He told people that they should love God and God loves them. He taught them how to pray.

One day Jesus sailed across the lake with His disciples. He and His disciples went to a quiet place on the shore. They climbed a hill and sat down to have a rest. But soon lots of people came to join them. They had heard Jesus was there. They came from towns and villages. There was a huge crowd.

"Tell them all to go home" said a disciple to Jesus. But Jesus felt very sorry for them. He talked to them, answered all their questions and made the sick well again.

"Oh! now send them away it's getting late and the people are hungry" said a disciple.

"We must feed them" said Jesus.

"Believe me even a huge amount of money would not be enough to buy food for all these people" said Philip one of Jesus' disciple.

"I have brought a picnic lunch" said a small boy.

"This boy has five little bread loaves and two small fish but it is not much to feed this big crowd " said  Andrew to Jesus.

Well Jesus held up the loaves and the fish. He said a prayer of thanks to God.

"Give it to the people" said Jesus to His disciples. So the disciples made the people to sit on the grass. The more food the disciples gave out, the more food there's seem to be.

That is a miracle! Now everyone had enough to eat. The disciples were surprised. 5000 people ate bread and fish until they were full. How could that be?

"Collect all the leftover food" said Jesus. The disciples did and took 12 baskets of food.

Do you know what is special? Jesus had 12 disciples so there's a basket of food for each one of them.

Even they didn't get missed out. How amazing it is that Jesus can bless tiny amount of food, go all the way to feed 5000 people!

After the story, we learnt a song:

"Jesus took the five little loaves"

Jesus took the five little loaves (snap, snap, snap)

Then Jesus took the two little fish (snap, snap, snap)

Ch:    Then looking up to heaven

He gave thanks, He gave thanks.

Looking up to heaven....... He gave thanks

Five thousand were fed with five little loaves (snap, snap, snap)

Five thousand were fed with two little fish (snap, snap, snap)

Then we moved on to craft;

Materials Required:

1. Paper bag

2. White paper to draw fish and bread

3. Colors

4. Scissors

Our kids enjoyed making the baskets, bread loaves and fishes.

Mr. Hiss

We have come up with fun activities to teach the children the letter formations and to help them identify the Capital and Small form of each alphabet. This week we have specially focused on the alphabet /s/ and continued on with the Jolly song that we have already learnt for the alphabet. This time out little tots made a beautiful craft of Mr. Hiss, the snake. As they sang along with their own little Mr. Hiss, it not only helped them recognize the letter but also helped them to develop their motor skills.

Here’s the song that they were singing while doing the craft:

The snake is in the grass

The snake is in the grass

/sssss/!    /sssss/!

The snake is in the grass.

Mr. Skinny Legs

In our weekly curriculum, the letter of this week is /s/.

As quoted by O. Fred Donaldson, “Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn”, we have introduced playful and fun activities that will teach our kids the Alphabet art and also help them in recognizing the different alphabets. These activities also aid in developing and enhancing the motor skills of our children. Through this activity, our children had loads of fun as they put their creativity into play and made their very own adorable Mr. Skinny Legs, the spider! They traced the shape of the spider to learn the formation of the letter ‘S’.

While doing the craft we were singing the famous sing-along,

The Itsy Bitsy spider climbed up the waterspout.
Down came the rain
and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun
and dried up all the rain
and the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again.

Up, up, up and down

Up, up, up and down.

Learning the letter sound /s/

We started our day with Jolly Phonics. First we did our letter story. Our kids enjoyed the story by pointing out to every character and objects in the story. Then they loved waving their hand in 's' shape, like a snake and said ssssssss.

The story narration was,

It is a sunny morning, and Sam is taking his dog, Samson, for a walk. They like to walk down to the pond. Sam looks around as they walk along. He sees a toadstool, a red and yellow caterpillar, and a blackbird on her nest. When they get to the pond, they spend some time watching the fish swim around. After a while, Samson goes off and snuffles around in the grass. He finds a stick, which he brings back to Sam. He barks at Sam, and Sam throws the stick for Samson to fetch. Samson runs around, looking for the stick in the grass. Suddenly, Samson starts barking, “Woof, woof, woof!” Sam skips over to see what Samson has found. “ssssss!” In front of Samson is a spotty snake. It is rearing up and is hissing loudly. Sam grabs hold of Samson, and the snake slithers quickly away.

They were even smart to point out to Sam and said "Sam is wearing a sock, Sam is wearing a shoe"

Other things in the picture with a /s/ sound are:

Snake, face, hiss, stick, sun, socks, mouse, stone, snail, spider, spots, grass.

Then  we sang the song from Jolly song,

The snake is in the grass.

The snake is in the grass.

/sss/! /sss/!

The snake is in the grass.

On day 2 we created a story table with the letter sound /s/

The story goes like this,

One day Sammy the giraffe was getting ready to go to the park. It was cold outside so he wore his scarf and he wore his socks. Then arrived his friend sandy the dog. They both took a bus to the park and they enjoyed playing there together.

Then we did blending and segmenting the simple words.

1. s-u-n

2. s-a-nd

3. s-o-ck

4. s-c-ar-f

were they can hear the sound of /s/ in the beginning

5. n-e-s-t

were they can hear the sound of /s/ in the middle

6. m-ou-se

7. b-u-s

were they can hear the sound of /s/ in the end

Finally we ended our day by doing craft. We made Mr. Hiss - the snake and Mr. Skinny Legs - the spider so they can trace over the shape of them in a fun learning way.

Our kids enjoyed making snake and spider with the help of their mothers. They loved singing the song while doing the  craft work.

The snake is in the grass.

The snake is in the grass.

 /sss/! /sss/!

The snake is in the grass.

They also did the tracing of the letter S on the snake and spider.
